DECA students qualify for nationals

Eight Cowley College DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) students competed in the State DECA Conference held in Hillsboro, Kansas, on Friday, February 23. Each student competed in three events, and all eight qualified to compete at DECA Nationals April 19-24 in Austin, Texas.

For the individual events, students must take a 100-question exam, prepare a case study, and present in front of judges in a role-play scenario. Qualifications for attendance to nationals include weekly attendance at meetings, fundraising participation, current academic standing, performance at nationals, as well as minimum scores at nationals.

DECA Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit student organization with more than 215,000 members in all 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Canada, China, Germany, Guam, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Spain. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance and accounting, and hospitality management. Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to attend leadership conferences throughout the United States as well as local state-level conferences. At these conferences, students compete in their fields of study through case studies and prepared presentations, along with listening to diversified speakers and presentations in related fields of study.
