The Golden Tigers program at Cowley College is gearing up for its fall kick-off, with enrollment dates set for the main campus in Arkansas City and the College’s Sumner Campus in Wellington.

Enrollment dates are as follows: Ark City enrollment on Tuesday, August 22, from 2-4 p.m. in the Earle N. Wright Community Room, and Wellington enrollment on Thursday, August 24, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Short Center Community Room.

In September, the Golden Tigers will head south to visit the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, followed by the First Americans Museum. Then, in October, the Golden Tigers will head to Lindsborg, Kansas, for their biannual Svensk Hyllningsfest, which is a community-wide festival that celebrates the Swedish pioneers who settled the Smoky Valley in 1868-1869. The group will attend the first day of the festival, which will include arts and crafts, special food, ethnic music, and other special entertainment, including fold dancers and musicians.

This semester, new classes include an interactive cooking demonstration, a pickleball 101 workshop, and other fun areas of interest. There will be educational lectures on various topics, including the history of Arkalalah and the national debt.

On the creative side, the Golden Tigers will host its very first “Maker Morning” and have partnered with two quilt shops to offer sewing and quilting classes in both Cowley and Sumner counties.

Another point of interest is that the Golden Tigers are offering an evening oil painting class and a pottery class that are both open to any age group as community education classes.
