In honor of former Cowley College golfer Brian Groves, Cowley College sophomore Sadie Kabisch was named this year’s Brian Groves Memorial Scholarship recipient during the 28th annual Tiger Skins/Brian Groves Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday at Ark City Great Life Golf & Fitness.

Brian Groves’ father, Mike, was on hand to present Kabisch with the award. Kabisch is a member of the No. 5-ranked Lady Tiger volleyball team and is majoring in physical therapy. She has a grade point average of 3.60.

Brian Groves (Class of 1998) was a member of the Tiger golf team before moving on to Southwestern College in Winfield. He was tragically killed in a one-vehicle accident in 2002.

Kabisch came to Cowley from Henrietta, TX, where she was an All-State volleyball player. As a freshman at Cowley, she played in 139 sets, recording 180 digs at 1.29 digs per set. She has recorded double-digit digs in each of Cowley’s first two victories to open the 2023 season.

“This is a big honor, and I am grateful to be chosen,” Kabisch said. “I love it here at Cowley; it is like a family.”

Although there were several worthy candidates for the Brian Groves Memorial Scholarship, in the end, the school could not go wrong with selecting Sadie Kabisch.
