Fall music concert dedicated to former choir student

Cowley College choir

The Cowley College choir and band members teamed to perform its fall concert Wednesday in the Robert Brown Theatre. The concert was dedicated to their friend and classmate, Hunter Stage, who tragically passed away on September 7.

“The choir has felt his absence through every rehearsal and yet has worked very hard to focus on making this concert a celebration of Hunter’s life with music,” director of vocal music Lindsay Allen said. “He is greatly missed.”

The choir performed songs in a fall theme that included "Alice's Theme" from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Jabberwocky from Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll, and a take on Shakespeare's Double, Double Toil and Trouble from Macbeth while the CC Singers thrilled the audience with a rendition of "I Put a Spell On You" from the popular Halloween movie Hocus Pocus, while also performing the James Bond Theme from the motion picture Dr. No, and Remember Me from Pixar Animation’s Coco.

Director of instrumental music, Dr. Michael Christensen, then led the jazz band’s performance of music from composers Sammy Nestico, David Sanborn, Matt Harris, and Les Hooper.

The concert band also shined with performances of Burst, Chase the Shouting Wind, and Coventry Variant by Greg Sanders.
