Showing their support for the local community, students in Cowley College’s Carpentry and Construction Trades program recently helped with the building of a Habitat for Humanity House located at 511 South Seventh Street in Arkansas City.

“This was a good way to get the students in the program more active in the building process,” Zackary Rozell, carpentry/construction trades instructor, said. “We hope the students gain more on-site knowledge of what it actually looks like to build a house. This is great for the students and the community.”

Carl Bowman, Cowley College advanced construction trades staff member, assisted with the project.

The Carpentry and Construction Trades program is designed to provide detailed instruction to students in building for both commercial and residential construction. The program provides knowledge in key areas such as safety protocols, handling and care of the tools of the trade, and the basics of electricity, plumbing, HVAC, site layout, concrete, masonry, and equipment.
