Cowley College criminal justice program to expand Controlled F.O.R.C.E. opportunities
The Criminal Justice Department at Cowley College is happy to announce some changes to their Controlled F.O.R.C.E. curriculum.
Cowley College has been offering classes in Controlled F.O.R.C.E. to students in its Criminal Justice program for two years. Controlled F.O.R.C.E. is a low-liability defensive tactics system that has been patented and used to train law enforcement and military personnel since 1997. F.O.R.C.E. is an acronym for First Offensive Reaction in a Controlled Environment. While the course was designed for law enforcement and military personnel it has also proven to be a great self-defense course as well as it is designed for people of all skill levels to be able to do.
Students who successfully complete the semester course will receive a Controlled F.O.R.C.E. user certification. Cowley is currently the only college with permission to offer the Controlled F.O.R.C.E curriculum.
The classes have proven to be popular with students at Cowley College and in the upcoming spring Semester of 2017 Cowley will add a Controlled F.O.R.C.E level II course. Another development for the curriculum is that the courses are going to be opened up to any person enrolled as a student at Cowley College and will no longer be limited to Criminal Justice Students.
The courses are instructed by Shawn Love, an officer with the Winfield Police Department. The next round of Controlled F.O.R.C.E classes are scheduled to begin January 24. Controlled F.O.R.C.E. level one is offered on a weekly basis and meets on Tuesday evenings through the semester.
