As the sponsor of the Media Club, Meg Smith enjoys working with her students and watching them grow as videographers, film makers, writers, photographers, producers, editors and individuals.
She has been a journalism instructor / adviser and editor in Kansas and Washington State. Before coming to Cowley in 2007, Meg taught at Emporia State University, University of Washington and Pierce Community College in Lakewood, WA.
Meg’s students have won numerous student media awards both in Kansas and Washington state. Her students have moved on to careers in marketing, public relations, broadcasting, social media management, and event planning among other careers. One of her graduates recently won a Heartland Emmy for his work in broadcasting.
Meg is an active member of the Ark City community where she has served on the Burford Arts Board, assisting in the incorporation of the Bison Bison Film Festival at the local historical theater, she is a member of the Ark City Area Chamber of Commerce board, and is the current chair of the Executive Board of the Chamber.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington in Tacoma, WA., her Masters from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA., and is currently working on her doctorate at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. She plans to graduate in 2023.
