Jamaal Watson began his career at Cowley College in January 2025 as an Adult Education instructional staff member, serving learners at the Winfield Correctional Facility. In this role, he supported incarcerated learners in achieving their educational goals, including earning their high school equivalency diploma. He is especially passionate about the intentional use of empathy as a catalyst for building trust, strengthening engagement, and empowering learners to pursue meaningful change.
In June 2026, Jamaal assumed the role of Director of Adult Education. In this position, he provides leadership and oversight for the Adult Education program, which serves as a pathway for learners seeking academic advancement and future opportunities. He leads strategic program development, supports instructional staff, and works to ensure a supportive and effective learning environment for a diverse population of adult learners. Jamaal is committed to advancing Cowley College’s student-centered mission by equipping learners with practical skills and fostering strong partnerships across the college and within the communities it serves.
Prior to joining Cowley College, Jamaal served as a chaplain resident at Wesley Medical Center and worked in the private sector as a microchip tester. He is also an ordained minister with a strong commitment to supporting individuals in their personal and spiritual growth.
Originally from South Carolina, Jamaal has lived in Wichita, Kansas for over ten years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education from Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina, and a Master of Arts in Educational Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts.
In his free time, Jamaal enjoys movies, fishing, and board games. He is passionate about helping others discover their purpose and make a positive impact in their world.
