Golden Tigers Program

The Cowley College Golden Tigers program, offered to community members who are at least 50 years of age or who are fully retired, provides educational opportunities that promotes the social, intellectual, mental, spiritual, and physical well-being of its members.

Short-term classes, hands-on workshops, and enlightening day trips are offered throughout the fall and spring semesters each year. The Golden Tigers program is designed to create community for its members while enriching their lives.

Courses
The Golden Tigers program aims to offer a cross-section of courses. Classes are created to promote learning through a variety of avenues. We’ll explore new skills and exchange ideas. Our classes may help members develop new interests and expand their horizons, or they may help members cultivate their interests and stay physically active. No matter what brings you to the Golden Tigers program, we are happy to have you!

Trips
The Golden Tigers take three day trips each semester. These trips are designed to be both fun and educational. We will travel to interesting sites and take part in hands-on learning opportunities. Please note that each trip is graded on accessibility in its description, but please feel free to contact the Golden Tigers Coordinator directly for any further questions.

Service Opportunities
Throughout the semester, there might be opportunities to give back through service within the community. Golden Tigers members will have the opportunity to learn more about these service organizations and become involved should the program have the chance to sponsor events and/or partnerships.

Cowley College has a variety of opportunities of which Golden Tigers can take advantage. These programs, clubs, and services are open to the public and/or our members.

Class Auditing

Platinum Card
Platinum Cards are available to community members aged 60 and over, and the card allows them free admission to certain college events. Any community member that resides in Cowley, Chautauqua, Sumner, or Sedgwick County qualifies. All Platinum cardholders are eligible to receive one ticket for free admission into any Cowley College home athletic event and any Cowley College theater event. There is no limit to the number of events that a cardholder can attend during the academic year. Platinum cardholders will not be able to use their card for any performance or event in the Robert Brown Theatre that is not a Cowley College sponsored performance.

The Platinum Card (previously known as the Gold Card) is independent and separate from the Golden Tigers, but it is available to our members who qualify. For more information, contact Golden Tigers Coordinator, Micah Fry, at 620-441-5225.

Class Attendance
Class attendance is not required. However, instructors work hard to prepare for these classes. Please let your instructor know if you cannot attend a class session.

Class Cancellation
If Cowley College cancels classes, the Golden Tigers will not hold their classes. Cowley College will post announcements on the college website and on area radio stations. Please check before going out in bad weather.

Course Fees
There is a $5 registration fee each semester, and each class is $5. As some classes may require additional materials or facility fees, please read the class descriptions for any additional fees.

Course Refund Policy
Refunds are not given if you are unable to attend a class. However, you may transfer to another class if space is available.

Trip Refund Policy
Refunds for trips are given only for family emergency, illness, or death in family. We greatly appreciate a substitute in your place if possible.

Golden Tigers Staff

The Golden Tigers Coordinator, Micah Fry, grew up in Arkansas City. She graduated from Cowley College and went on to complete both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Wichita State University. In addition to coordinating the Golden Tigers, she is the Community Education Coordinator and an adjunct faculty member teaching public speaking here at Cowley College.
