Proclamation made for Adult Education Day on February 28

Laura Kelly, Governor of the state of Kansas, recently proclaimed February 28, 2024, as Adult Education Day in the state of Kansas. Governor Kelly urges all citizens to join in this observation.

An estimated 58% of Kansas adults experience literacy or numeracy issues—such as needing English language acquisition, GED preparation, and career and technical education—issues that severely impact their lives and families, their ability to work productively, and their full participation as citizens and residents of Kansas; and

Kansas supports the idea that the strength of local businesses is dependent on the support of the community, the preparation of our workforce for America’s jobs of the future, and the ability to compete in the global economy and the Kansas Adult Education Association and its 20 local programs are partners with both the community and local businesses in Kansas, working towards helping approximately 7,000 Kansas adults every year earn their GED, learn English as a second language, and prepare to move our economy forward. 

According to Kami Moore, director of Adult Education Programs at Cowley College, the next GED session will start on March 25.  Enrollment is currently open and will end on March 12. 

Cowley has a Winfield location for classes as well as Ark City. Class times are offered in the morning, afternoon, early evening, and late evening, and they can accommodate any schedule. Online offerings are also available.
