After a strong finish at the NAQT Community College Sectional Championship on January 25, 2025, the Cowley College Quiz Bowl teams made it to the national stage. On February 28, 2025, two teams from Cowley will travel to Rosemont, Illinois, for the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) Community College Championship Tournament (CCCT), marking the ninth time Cowley has attended.

The CCCT is an elite competition, with only 25 of 39 qualifying teams earning invitations this year. The event features fast-paced gameplay, challenging questions, and intense competition among the nation’s top community college teams. Cowley’s teams enter ranked 19th and 24th, with a strong history of surpassing initial rankings, including a 10th-place finish in 2024.

Cowley’s A-Team, captained by Tyson Lazier, includes Ian Aggson, Cole Batten, Amiya Dieguez, and Larry Marczynski. The B Team, led by captain Mollie Edge, includes Andrew Allen, Jimmy Ball, Isabella Loomis, and Jillian Stickel. The teams are coached by Dianne Flickinger and assisted by Mark Flickinger.

Cowley will compete against Kansas, Oklahoma, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and Kentucky schools. The competition is known for its swift structure, with moderators reading at an accelerated speed and a shortened five-second response time for bonus questions. While the difficulty is higher than in sectionals, students enjoy the strategic play.

Beyond competition, the trip offers an enriching educational experience. In Illinois, the teams will visit the Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie to interact with a holographic Holocaust survivor and tour The Art Institute of Chicago, guided by Cowley College art instructor Mark Flickinger.

The team departs Thursday, February 27, and returns late Sunday, March 2. With their sights set on another strong showing, Cowley’s Quiz Bowl teams will represent their college with knowledge, skill, and determination.
