Two Winfield High School Seniors Awarded Quiz Bowl Scholarships at Cowley College

Eli Hubble and Rawson Ray

Cowley College’s Collegiate Quiz Bowl program is proud to announce the signing of two standout academic scholars from Winfield High School. Eli Hubble and Rawson Ray have each been awarded two-year scholarships to join the Cowley College Quiz Bowl team, beginning in the fall of 2025.

The scholarships were formally awarded during Winfield High School’s Senior Awards Night, where Cowley Quiz Bowl Coach Dianne Flickinger celebrated the occasion in person.

“It was an honor for me to attend their Senior Award night and present these scholarships,” Flickinger shared. “I’ve been eagerly awaiting Eli Hubble’s graduation for two years after getting to know his family through his older brother, Zane.”

Zane Hubble left a lasting mark on Cowley’s Quiz Bowl legacy, holding multiple individual records—including most tossups answered (373), total points (3,765), and highest points per 20 tossups heard (44.56%). He was a key member of Cowley’s historic 2023 team, which finished 8th nationally—the college’s highest placement to date—and ranked first individually in Kansas.

Now, the torch passes to Eli Hubble, who enters Cowley with high expectations and a legacy to continue.

Also joining the Cowley Quiz Bowl family is Rawson Ray, another talented member of Winfield’s Scholar’s Bowl team. Their recruitment was sparked by Jimmy Ball, a current Cowley team member and friend of both students, who played alongside them in high school.

“Jimmy refers to this group as the ‘dream team’ and believes Eli and Rawson have the potential to achieve greatness at Cowley,” said Flickinger. “He’s been instrumental in encouraging them to reunite and compete at the next level.”

Coach Flickinger already has high hopes for the upcoming season, which includes a matchup against the nationally ranked second-place team in Oklahoma this September.

At Cowley, many Quiz Bowl members have joined through word-of-mouth or family connections—a tradition that continues with Eli and Rawson. Like the Hubbles, the Aggson family has a strong legacy at Cowley, with brothers Justin, Laurence, and Ian (Individual state champion and a member of the 2025 State Champion team - Ian is now ranked fourth among the best Cowley College Quiz Bowlers of all time) having already competed, and youngest brother Patrick set to join in the fall.

With new talent, experienced leadership, and a growing legacy of excellence, Cowley College’s Quiz Bowl team looks ahead to another competitive and promising season.
