Cowley College Celebrates 67 Student Graduates at Winfield Correctional Facility

Cowley College celebrated the achievements of 67 students at the Winfield Correctional Facility during its Spring 2026 Adult Education and Career and Technical Education Recognition Ceremony held June 29.

The ceremony recognized students who completed high school diplomas, technical certificates, and academic milestones while participating in educational programs offered through Cowley College in partnership with the Winfield Correctional Facility and the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Among this spring's accomplishments:

• 13 students earned their high school diplomas, including two who simultaneously completed a technical certification.
• 20 students earned a Technical A Certificate in Construction Trades.
• 17 students earned a Technical A Certificate in Electromechanical Maintenance.
• 19 students earned a Technical A Certificate in Welding Technology.

The ceremony also recognized academic excellence among students completing technical programs. Twelve graduates earned placement on the Dean's Honor Roll by achieving a grade-point average between 3.5 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale while completing at least 12 credit hours. Thirteen graduates earned placement on the President's Honor Roll with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while completing a minimum of 12 credit hours.

In addition, one Adult Education student was awarded a Cowley College scholarship based on outstanding test scores. The scholarship provides $250 per semester for up to four semesters to be applied toward post-secondary coursework at Cowley College, helping support continued educational advancement after completion of the Adult Education program.

"Cowley College takes pride in extending educational opportunities to incarcerated students in partnership with Winfield Correctional Facility and the Kansas Department of Corrections," said Jared McGuire, Correctional Education Program Coordinator. "Such opportunities improve outcomes for students seeking to re-enter the workforce, as well as drive community engagement and reintegration upon release."

Through its correctional education programs, Cowley College continued to provide students with opportunities to earn valuable credentials, develop career-ready skills, and prepare for successful transitions into the workforce and their communities. The Spring 2026 graduates represented determination, perseverance, and commitment, demonstrating the life-changing impact of accessible educational opportunities.
