Cowley College Quiz Bowl Teams Finish Third at CC Kickoff

On Saturday, the Cowley A and B teams competed in the CC kickoff at El Reno, Oklahoma. Cowley’s two teams were represented by newcomers Quinn Spears, Link Bonnell, Patrick Aggson, and Jasper Crow, as well as returning members Eli Hubble, Rawson Ray, Andrew Allen, and Jimmy Ball.

Team A consisted of Hubble, Ray, Allen, and Aggson. Team B consisted of Spears, Ball, Crow, and Bonnell.

Cowley A achieved a 7-2 record on the day, finishing 3rd place overall with their highest match score being 475.

“I need caffeine,” Hubble said after getting negative points. Hubble went on to win the second-place highest individual scorer award, with 715 points total from answering 50 tossups and 16 powers.

The closest match of the day was Cowley A vs Redlands A. A climactic finish resulted in a final score of 335-330, with Cowley taking the hard-fought win.

The Cowley B and Redlands B teams went head-to-head in a close game as well, with Cowley winning 145-110.

Hannah Watts, a Cowley member, spectated and score-kept throughout the tournament. “There was a really good energy,” Watts said regarding Cowley B’s performance.

In their final match of the day, both the Cowley B team and the opposing Rose team displayed camaraderie and sportsmanship as they sang “Happy Birthday” to Watts.

All-in-all, Cowley’s Quiz Bowl teams are shaping up to have a successful year.
