Engineering Major Ready to Create a Legacy as a Queen Alalah Finalist
Born and raised in Arkansas City, Kansas, Riley Purdue has a personality driven by a passion for learning and a desire to make a difference in the world. Growing up as the only child of Jeremy and Suvanah Perdue, Riley was encouraged to pursue a variety of interests, laying the foundation for a well-rounded education.
After graduating from Arkansas City High School, Riley chose to attend Cowley College, influenced by the opportunity to continue playing soccer and the financial benefits offered. With a remarkable GPA of 3.93, Riley quickly established a reputation for academic excellence.
Currently majoring in Engineering, Riley is gaining valuable real-world experience through a part-time position at Vector Tooling Technologies in Strother Field. As a result of this role, Riley is enhancing her practical skills and preparing herself for further studies in Mechanical Engineering at Kansas State. At Cowley College, Riley is a member of several organizations, including Mu Alpha Theta and Phi Theta Kappa honors societies, exemplifying leadership and commitment to academic achievement. Additionally, Riley plays trombone in the Jazz Band and participates in soccer, showcasing her diverse talents and interests.
A strong advocate for community service, Riley often volunteers at Burford Theatre Arts, assisting wherever needed. This dedication to helping others reflects a deep-rooted belief in giving back to the community.
This year, Riley was honored to be named a finalist for the Queen Alalah Festival, a significant event in Arkansas City. Being recognized as one of the top five finalists has been an exhilarating experience, especially given the festival’s importance in Riley's life. This achievement symbolizes Riley's strong ties to the community and commitment to personal growth.
Looking ahead, Riley is excited to continue her journey in engineering, aiming to make meaningful contributions to the field and the community. With unwavering support from classmates and staff at Cowley College, Riley is on the path to a successful future.
