Thrilling Competition at the Fall Invitational Quiz Bowl Tournament

On Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Fall Invitational quiz bowl tournament at Neosho County Community College brought eager competitors together for a day filled with challenging questions and spirited teamwork. Teams participated in five rounds, each with 24 questions on various subjects, including academics, pop culture, sports, and current events. 

Jillian Stickel lit up the tournament, scoring an impressive 10 toss-ups in the first round and finishing 2nd overall among 35 participants. Her performance demonstrated her confidence and growth from the previous year.

Team A set a goal to score 300 points in a round and exceeded expectations with a remarkable 380 points in the third round. Their contributions included 114 points from toss-ups and 240 points from bonus questions, achieving a perfect 40 points on three occasions during the bonus questions.

Every student scored at least one toss-up, showcasing their developing skills and boosting overall confidence. Six community colleges participated, including Allen, Coffeyville, Cowley, Independence, Johnson County, and Neosho, creating nine teams and 35 students.

Neiley Pate ensured accurate scoring, Mark Flickinger moderated, and Coach Dianne Flickinger kept the event running smoothly.

The next challenge awaits at the Snow Bowl in Garden City on December 6-7, when we compete against Garden City, Seward, and Oklahoma teams. Having gained momentum from this tournament, the teams look forward to competing again shortly.
