Cowley College Men’s Soccer Advances to NJCAA Semifinals
In a dramatic showdown at the NJCAA Division I Men’s Soccer National Championship, the Cowley College Tigers punched their ticket to the semifinals after a nail-biting victory over Arizona Western. Playing in frigid conditions at the SCHEELS Stryker Sports Complex, the fourth-seeded Tigers and fifth-seeded Matadors went into double overtime before settling the match with a penalty shootout.
Freshman Inaki Lambarri delivered the decisive goal in the seventh round of penalty kicks, sending the Tigers to a thrilling 7-6 victory and sparking wild celebrations on the field.
With the win, Cowley College advanced to the NJCAA Semifinals, where they will face sixth-seeded Eastern Florida State College, which boasts a 16-2-2 record this season. The semifinal match will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 5:30 PM CST in the SCHEELS Stryker Sports Complex, Wichita, KS. Fans will be able to stream the game live on ESPN+.
Cowley College has shown grit and determination throughout the tournament and is now just one game away from the National Championship final. “We’ve worked all season for moments like this,” said Head Coach, Ruy Vaz. “Our players showed incredible heart and resilience against a tough opponent, and we’re excited to keep the journey going.”
