The Cowley College Quiz Bowl team demonstrated exceptional strength and competitive spirit at the Snow Bowl tournament held December 6, 2025, in Garden City, Kansas. Facing 13 teams representing nine colleges from Kansas and Oklahoma, Cowley’s six-member roster competed as a single team and finished with an impressive 7–2 record, securing a third-place overall finish.

Cowley’s only losses came in two tightly contested matches against Murray State A, decided by margins of just 20 and 30 points. These close results underscored Cowley’s competitiveness, placing them among Murray State’s toughest opponents of the day.

Head coach Dianne Flickinger praised the team’s performance, noting, “We matched up well against them, and our students competed with confidence throughout the day.”

A major highlight came in Round 5, when Cowley earned a key victory over Garden City A. Later in the tournament, a tie with Rose State led to a coin toss to determine rebracketing for Round 8. After losing the toss, Cowley was paired once again with Murray State A instead of Garden City A, resulting in another close and hard-fought matchup.

Individual performances further showcased the team’s talent.

  • Eli Hubble placed 2nd overall out of 46 competitors, correctly answering 48 of the 140 toss-up questions heard throughout Cowley’s matches.
  • Team captain Rawson Ray also delivered a strong performance, finishing 9th overall.
Additional scorers included Jimmy Ball (39th) and Hannah Watts (40th).
  • Teammates Isabella Loomis and Denny Insaly contributed valuable support through strategic substitutions and key bonus responses.

Looking ahead, the Cowley Quiz Bowl team will return to competition on January 24 at the NAQT Community College Sectionals in Independence, Kansas. With a pair of new recruits joining the roster, Cowley plans to field two teams and hopes to carry the momentum from their strong showing at the Snow Bowl tournament into the spring season.

(Cassidy McIntyre - first place from Rose State; Eli Hubble - second place from Cowley, Aidyn Boren - 3rd Pl. from Murray State A, Phybee Madlangayan from Garden City A, and in 5th, Lance Thompson from Murray State B.)
