Cowley College Excels at Snow Bowl Quiz Tournament

Cowley College's Collegiate Quiz Bowl teams delivered an impressive performance at the Snow Bowl Quiz Tournament on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Garden City Community College. Competing against 12 teams from six community colleges across Kansas and Oklahoma, Cowley A claimed an impressive 2nd place finish, going head-to-head with the powerhouse A-team from Redlands Community College, Oklahoma.

Despite facing many challenges this semester, Cowley College entered three teams in the event, and demonstrated resilience, responsibility, and initiative. The most meaningful comment came from Garden City’s host who remarked, “You had an extraordinary group of students representing Cowley. They were all so kind, thoughtful, and respectful while they were here. A big congrats to them on their Snow Bowl performance, but also just on being awesome humans!” 

• Cowley A: 2nd place
• Cowley C: 10th place
• Cowley B: 11th place

In addition to the team successes, several Cowley students earned individual recognition, highlighting their exceptional knowledge and competitive spirit during the tournament's first five games:

• Ian Aggson: 4th place medal, tied for 3rd overall (second-year A team)
• Jillian Stickel: 6th place, just one point shy of a top-five medal (second-year C team)
• Larry Marzcynski: tied for 15th place (second-year A team)
• Gage Hunt and Jimmy Ball: tied for 17th place (first-year B and C teams, respectively)
• Tyson Lazier: tied for 19th place (second-year A team)
• Additional participants include Mollie Edge (28th) first-year C team; Aidyn Holman and Danny Insaly (tied for 29th) first-year B team; Cole Batten (36th) second-year A team; Avery Hughes (41) first-year B team; and Isabella Loomis (45) first-year C team.

Cole Batten, a second-year A team member, has taken on a leadership role for the team. While they may not always receive individual recognition, Cole’s contributions to bonus questions leads the team towards success.
