Audition Dates

  • Friday, November 22nd, 2024
    1:00pm to 3:00pm
  • Wednesday, February 26th, 2025
    1:00pm to 3:00pm
    Vocal Music Students are welcome to sit in on Concert Choir from 1:00pm to 1:50pm, followed by auditions from 2:00pm to 3:00pm.
  • Thursday, March 13th, 2025
    12:30pm to 2:30pm

Requirements

Choir

Choir scholarship applicants should prepare a solo piece to sing for the music faculty. Choose a piece that would be acceptable to bring to contest (folk song, art song, aria...) or if musical theatre is a strength of yours, a musical theatre selection would be acceptable. A live accompanist will be available for you during the audition so please bring a copy of your chosen piece to your audition.

The responsibilities of Vocal Music Scholarship recipients are as follows:

  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA or better
  • Enroll in Concert Choir MUS 2656 01
  • Audition for Cowley College Singers at the beginning of the fall semester
  • Enroll in applied voice lessons MUS2660 35
  • Participate in the annual college musical production. Participation may be fulfilled by any combination of the following options:
    • Be cast in the show
    • Work practicum hours to help with the set
    • Be assigned tasks in marketing/house management/crew, etc.
  • Assist in music festivals held on the college campus

Theatre

Theatre scholarship applicants should prepare the following:

  • Performance Focus – Applicants should prepare a monologue or song to perform for the theatre faculty.  These can be any genre but should showcase the applicant.  A live accompanist can be available for singers, but must be identified before the audition date.
  • Design/Technical Focus – Applicants should prepare a short portfolio presentation of their previous work.  This presentation should not be exhaustive, but should include the applicant’s best work and focus on the preferred area(s) of interest.

The responsibilities of Theatre Scholarship recipients are as follows:

  • Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA each semester.
  • Active participation in all Mainstage and Act One Drama Club productions in an assigned capacity. 
  • Maintain active participation in Act One Drama Club.
  • Successful completion of Theatre Appreciation, Acting, Stagecraft, and Theatre Practicum I-IV.
  • Enrollment in a minimum of 12 credit hours at Arkansas City Campus.
  • Company Clause: Be respectful to your peers and all faculty/staff members while engaging as a reliable member of the Cowley Theatre company and fostering a positive environment for all.
  • Must live on campus unless living locally with a parent/guardian.

Band / Instrumental Music

Instrumental Music offers two types of scholarships, Instrumental (Full Tuition & Books), and Ensemble. Auditions are ONLY required for students seeking a full tuition and books scholarship.

  • Instrumental scholarship applicants should prepare a short piece of music of your choice. This can be anything from your solo and ensemble repertoire or selections from your concert band repertoire. 

The responsibilities of the Instrumental Music Scholarship are:

  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA
  • Be enrolled in at least 12 hours
  • Participation in Concert Band and at least one of either Jazz or Pep Band.
  • Enrollment in Applied Lessons

Ensemble scholarships are available to ALL interested students and do NOT require an audition to be awarded. The exception is those looking to play drums or bass guitar in the pep band or jazz band and will required a play screening to be considered for those parts.
