Julianna Smarsh

Advising and Retention Coordinator

Julianna Smarsh started her commitment to the success of Cowley College students in 2017 within the admissions department. The principle of life-long learning guides her personal mission as she advocates for a world where everyone is empowered to experience life to the fullest, find their passions, and thrive. She applies this pursuit in the education environment by utilizing a holistic advising approach and an equitability-based lens and leaning into her strengths, such as futuristic thinking and resourcefulness. Her positions at the college allow her to embrace this mission as she serves as the Lead Advisor (including overseeing the Academic Advising Council) for the college within her role as the Academic Outreach and Mulvane Site Coordinator.

Julianna holds a Bachelor of Arts from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where she double majored in Accounting and Business Administration, and a Masters of Science in Education with an emphasis in Higher Education Student Affairs from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. In the 2021-2022 academic year, the Kansas-Nebraska Region of Phi Theta Kappa recognized Julianna as a Five-Star Advisor for Cowley’s Alpha Gamma Upsilon chapter. In the 2023-2024 academic year, Cowley College nominated her to participate in year IX of the Kansas Community College Leadership Institute (KCCLI).

Julianna hopes that the commitment to the community and academic endeavors shown by the collective team of Cowley College employees will provide a transformative educational experience for those willing to explore the opportunities.
