Michael Christensen
Originally from Lawton Oklahoma, Dr. Christensen is an active educator, performer, conductor and composer. He earned his B.M.A. in Music Performance and Master of Music from the University of Oklahoma and D.M.A. in saxophone performance from Texas Tech University.
Previously, Michael held teaching positions at Coffeyville Community College and the University of Texas at Brownsville. As a performer, Michael has given recitals and performances throughout the US and Europe, was a founding member of the award-winning Mirasol Quartet, and released his debut album in 2013 with Quartet Exordium titled Missa Prolationum.
He gave his debut solo concerto performance in 2015 with the Texas Tech Symphonic Wind Ensemble, performing Concerto for Alto Saxophone by Stephen Bryant. Dr. Christensen joined Cowley College in the fall of 2019 and has been active with the visual and performing arts department in numerous engagements.
He helped organize the combined Cowley Alumni Concert for Cowley College's 100th "Centennial," where his original piece "Centennial: Celebrating 100 years of Cowley College" premiered. In addition to his responsibilities at Cowley College, Dr. Christensen was named conductor of the South Kansas Symphony in the summer of 2023.
