Samantha Troyer
Samantha Troyer is the Lead Paramedic Instructor for the nationally accredited Cowley College Paramedic Program. She joined Cowley as a full-time paramedic instructor in 2015 and had previously worked for 5 years as a lab assistant for the Paramedic Program. Prior to joining Cowley full-time she worked at Butler County EMS as a field paramedic and training lieutenant, and also worked at Harper County EMS as a paramedic.
Mrs. Troyer has piloted many successful teaching initiatives with her paramedic students, including project-based learning, case-based learning, and high fidelity simulation. Her innovations in the classroom led to one of the most successful cohorts in the 20-year history of Cowley’s program in 2017, where there was a 100% retention rate, 100% certification rate, and 100% positive placement rate for the program graduates. In addition to focusing on the clinical and operational educational aspects of teaching new paramedics, Samantha also emphasizes provider well-being throughout the course. “Paramedics serve in a very high-stress career setting. We teach our students concepts on mental health self-care and stress management principles so they can have a long and rewarding career.”
Samantha received the 2010 Outstanding Allied Health Graduate Award from Cowley College, and the 2016 Outstanding Instructor Award from the Kansas Emergency Medical Technician Association. She holds an associate’s degree in Emergency Medical Services from Cowley College and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
Samantha lives in Harper County with her husband Paul and her daughter Addie. She enjoys playing the piano, historical documentaries, and coaching softball when she’s not teaching.
