math and science day

Cowley College will once again celebrate the thrill of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) with its annual Math & Science Day on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is designed for high school students and offers an action-packed day filled with academic challenges, hands-on activities, and exciting prizes for first and second places.

The day will kick off with testing across multiple STEM disciplines. Top performers in these tests will be rewarded with scientific calculators, recognizing their academic excellence. Following the exams, students will participate in six thrilling STEM challenges, where innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills take center stage. Each challenge will award cash prizes for first and second place winners.

“Math & Science Day is one of our most energetic and inspiring events of the year,” said Academic Department Specialist, Paige Ratcliff. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to experience the excitement of STEM in a fun, competitive environment while also seeing what Cowley College has to offer.”

Participants can choose from a variety of unique and engaging activities, including:

  • Breakout – Max 4 people per group (4 groups available)
Combining the thrill of an escape room with academic puzzles, teams race against time to crack codes and solve clues. Each year’s theme brings new surprises and challenges.
  • CSI – Max 2 people per group (7 groups available)
Students step into the role of detectives, analyzing clues and piecing together evidence to solve a mystery using logic and observation.
  • Ping Pong Launcher – Max 2 people per group (Unlimited groups; launcher must be built before the event) Competitors design and build their own launcher ahead of time, then face off to see whose design can score the most points.
  • Write It – Build It – Max 3 people per group (10 groups available)
One teammate describes a science-themed sculpture while others rebuild it using only those verbal instructions — testing precision, communication, and teamwork.
  • Puzzle Fest – Individual event (Unlimited groups)
Solo participants take on brain-bending puzzles that challenge their logic, focus, and speed.
  • Computer Science – Max 2 people per group (10 groups available)
Students explore the world of coding and computation through hands-on problem-solving and creative digital challenges.

Please note: Winners of cash prizes must have their Social Security card in order to collect their award.

Math & Science Day offers students the chance to apply classroom knowledge in fun, real-world scenarios while connecting with Cowley faculty and current students. Registration information will be shared soon through participating schools and on Cowley College’s website.
