Cowley College Quiz Bowl Teams National Championship Results

Quiz Bowl A-Team

Cowley College’s Collegiate Quiz Bowl (CQB) teams showcased their knowledge and teamwork at the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) Community College Championship Tournament in Rosemont, Illinois, held from February 27 to March 2, 2025. Facing intense competition, both Cowley teams performed admirably against some of the best quiz bowl teams in the nation.

Two Cowley teams qualified for the national championship:

  • A-Team: Captain Tyson Lazier, Ian Aggson, Cole Batten, Larry Marczynski, and Amiya Dieguez.
  • B-Team: Captain Mollie Edge, Jillian Stickel, Jimmy Ball, Isabella Loomis, and Andrew Allen.

A total of 24 teams and 105 players competed in the tournament. Cowley A finished in a tie for 20th place, while Cowley B secured a tie for 22nd place.

On Friday, preliminary rounds determined playoff placements for Saturday’s competition. Teams split into pools based on performance. Cowley A placed 5th in their prelim group, playing against high-ranking teams. They won against Valencia C (150-85) but lost a tie-breaker against the same team on Saturday morning. However, they bounced back with four consecutive wins before narrowly losing the last two rounds.

Cowley B Team, placed in a challenging group, faced off against top teams, including the nation’s best, Chipola College. Despite the tough matchups, standout performances by Jillian Stickel and Mollie Edge led to scoring against Chipola. The B-team went on to win two rounds against fellow Kansas teams, Garden City and Seward. Their match against Garden City was thrilling, with Jimmy Ball securing the win on the final question (95-90).
