Ponca City Native to Show out as Queen Alalah Finalist
Karime Castillo is an aspiring costume designer and Technical Theatre Major, deeply passionate about fashion and the performing arts. Karime was born in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico, and moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma, at seven years old. Now 20, she is excited to celebrate her 19th birthday on October 21st.
Currently a student at Cowley College, Karime chose Cowley College for its exceptional scholarship opportunities, smaller class sizes, and welcoming environment. Karime is actively involved in her college community as the secretary of the Theatre’s Act One Club and is excited to be working on the hair and makeup team for the upcoming musical "James and the Giant Peach," scheduled for November 22nd-24th.
Karime’s strong work ethic and leadership skills were evident during her high school years at Ponca City High School, where she served as Vice President of the Key Club and volunteered regularly at a local soup kitchen. Volunteering remains one of her passions, reflecting her commitment to positively impacting her community.
Karime comes from a bilingual family; her mother, Rebeca Castillo Salazar, holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting, while her father, Hector Cazares Rodela, has a degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. They met at a language institution while learning English and have been together for 26 years. Though Karime has no siblings, she has a younger cousin, Milton Lozano, who lives with her family. She considers him her little brother and will continue to support him through his teenage years.
With aspirations to study Mandarin Chinese and minor in fashion styling, Karime is still exploring her options for future schools. She is honored to be named a finalist for Queen Alalah. This recognition holds special significance as she walks past the hall of former queens. This opportunity reflects her respect for the tradition and hard work of the women who have come before her.
Karime Castillo is ready to contribute meaningfully to theater and fashion in the future.
