Former Little Miss Arkalalah candidate crowned Queen Alalah XC

Kathrynne Giger crowned Queen Alalah XC

Having lived in Arkansas City her entire life, Cowley College sophomore Kathrynne Giger lived out a dream Friday night as she heard her name called as Queen Alalah XC. The crowning took place  inside the Robert Brown Theatre.

The first runner-up was Maycee Wolfenbarger. The other three candidates were Kori Ford, Geshawna Francis, and Maddux Gonzales.

Queen Alalah LXXXIX, Ileana Varela, was on hand to pass her crown onto Giger.

“This is absolutely amazing, I am at a loss for words,” Giger said. “This has been an incredible experience and I am truly honored to be the 90th Queen Alalah. This is such a blessing and a huge honor.”

The coronation also had performances by the CC Singers, Ark City Dance, and Brynlea Watkins.

Cowley College’s own Rhoda MacLaughlin and her son, Spencer, also son of the late Cowley College theatre director Scott MacLaughlin, served as the Master of Ceremonies and introduced the former queens and the visiting queens from surrounding towns in southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma. They were also present for the crowning of Little Mister and Miss Arkalalah which went to Elliott O’Donnell and Calleigh Barker.

Giger is the daughter of Jake and Amanda Giger of Arkansas City. Grandparents are Tony (deceased) and Kathy Harris of Ark City and Kent (deceased), and Sharon Giger of Geuda Springs. She has three brothers, Jacob, 22, Harris, 17, Roman, 15, and a sister, Ava, 12.

At Cowley, she is involved in Concert Choir, CC Singers, Act One Drama Club and is a Student Ambassador. She recently appeared in the Theatre Department presentation of The Addams Family.

Along with her campus involvement, Giger serves as a work-study in the Renn-Memorial Library.

The liberal arts major plans to transfer to the University of Oklahoma to be a part of the school’s Library Science program and will also pursue her Master’s degree at the college.
