Firefighters and fire safety professionals are vital for the health and safety of our communities. At Cowley College, our Fire Science certificate program prepares you to enter the workforce as an entry-level firefighter. Program completers are prepared to obtain Hazardous Material Operation-Level certification, Firefighter I and Firefighter II certifications, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

Our program prepares you for employment at fire service and safety agencies and advances your professional development and skills in fire service and safety. You will learn the latest industry principles and theories on fire safety, best practices in tactical operations, and develop critical leadership skills. Our program is designed to meet the learning and performance objectives specified by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard 1001. Our courses are designed to prepare you for the Firefighter I certification process and help you increase in understanding and skills for basic fire service operations.
