Student of Concern

Cowley College is committed to student success, but students don't always ask for the help they need, and when that happens, valuable resources go unused. Often, it's someone else in their life, who first notices a student is struggling.

To address this, Cowley College has a multidisciplinary team dedicated to recognizing, evaluating, and responding to students who display troubling behaviors or communications. Centralizing this work within one team means concerns don't slip through the cracks, and it allows staff to connect details from different sources that might seem minor alone but point to something more serious together. Concerns might include danger to self or others, mental health struggles, substance use, disability related needs, or medical issues.

Beyond safety, the team also supports students' academic success and well-being through early, proactive outreach. Anyone with a concern about a Cowley College student can submit an online Student of Concern Report Form. Reports go directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs, who reviews each one, assembles the team when appropriate, and develops an action plan.
