While campus resources are based at the Arkansas City Campus, we are committed to supporting every student, regardless of location, and will do our best to arrange virtual meetings or visits to other Cowley College campuses when possible.

Screening results are for informational and educational purposes only. They are not intended to constitute medical advice or be a substitute for professional diagnosis and treatment; however, they can be helpful if you share your results with your Counselor or Medical Provider. If you ever have questions or would like support regarding the results, please reach out to Counseling Services.

Experiencing domestic violence, dating violence, or sexual assault can leave you feeling isolated, as though there's no one to turn to and nowhere to go. Please know that support is available, and taking that first step to seek help is an important part of healing. Confidential counseling is offered on campus to help you work through decisions, address safety concerns, and begin the healing process at your own pace.

Beyond campus services, students can also connect with the local DV/SA Resources of Cowley & Sumner Counties for additional support. An advocate is available to meet with students on campus by request. To arrange an appointment, contact the DV/SA Resources of Cowley & Sumner Counties, Cowley Counseling Services, or the Cowley Title IX Office.

Services Provided:

  • Safety Planning & Advocacy – crisis intervention, resources and referrals
  • Support Groups – meet weekly and are open-ended
  • Education & Awareness – information for the public about our services and community impact of violence
  • Medical Advocacy – on-site support & assistance during forensic exams or services related to DV/SA
  • Court Advocacy – on-site support & assistance navigating the court system and protection orders
  • Spanish-Speaking Advocacy – on the phone or in-person
  • Supportive Counseling – in-person or virtual appointments available

In a situation in which you are thinking about harming yourself or another person, it is recommended that you contact one of the following immediately:

  • For emergencies, call 911 or go to the nearest ER.
  • Go to 988lifeline.org or call 988 (press 1 if you are a Veteran or Service Member), or text 741741
  • Find A Helpline at findahelpline.com for a list of United States hotlines for suicide, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, and other topics
  • Four County Crisis Line is 800-499-1748 and serves Cowley, Chautauqua, Elk, Montgomery, and Wilson Counties.
  • COMCARE Crisis Line is 316-660-7500 and serves both Sedgwick and Sumner Counties for Crisis Care

For students who prefer not to contact the Student Life Counselor, it is recommended that the following resources be considered:

  • Your family doctor (for a referral to a counselor or therapist)
  • A counselor or therapist that you have worked with previously, or someone recommended by a trusted friend or family member
  • Reach out to a trusted member of your faith/spiritual community
  • Call the number on the back of your insurance card/go online to see what Counselors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists are in network
  • Your community mental health center:
